Having just recently been voted as the player's player of the year at the Galway Hockey Club awards night Meave Faherty was also confirmed as Galway Hockey Club's first team Captain for the coming season. Coach Richard Malone who thanked last year's Captain Susan Joyce for her contribution thorough out the season was delighted to announce Meave Faherty as the Captain, commenting on the appointment Malone said "Having Meave as Captain next year is a real indication of our desire to progress, Meave has all the qualities necessary to lead this club and her teammates to the next. Her appointment is really exciting for everyone from the Club as Meave has been part of Galway since her junior days and has always set high standards for herself". Indeed Faherty is indeed a product of the Galway youth system learning a lot of her trade from former coach and current club President Donal Dempsey.
