Following the Galway Hockey Club's AGM, head coach Richard Malone was delighted to confirm that Louise Thornton would be Captaining Galway Hockey Club 2nds team for the 2009/2010 campaign. Commenting about the appointment Malone said "It's fantastic news that Louise has accepted the challenge for next season, she has all the qualities necessary to be a leader both on and off the pitch!". This news is another reflection of the quality of players coming thorough the club's youth setup is a promising sign of all the development work that has gone on in previous years. The young Thornton has already had a promising career as she has represented Connacht at U-16 and U-18 levels, while last season she was a stalwart at the back as Galway 2nds reached the quarter finals of the Irish Junior Cup and retained the Connacht Senior Cup for the second year in a row! Commenting herself on her appointment "I think it's every player's dream to Captain their Club team, I can't wait for the challenge ahead it's going to be a tough season, but I know we have the players to be as successful as other years if we work hard!"
