It was certainly an exciting Sunday afternoon from a Galway Hockey Club perspective with four teams contesting three different competitions there was drama and excitiment to wow any supporter.
Galway 3rds: 4
KNC U-16's: 4 (KNC Won 4-3 on PS)
First up were Galway 3rds as they faced the undefeated Knocknacarra U-16's in the Connacht Junior Cup Semi final, and day certainly began with a cracker as the thirds turned in an impressive display as they challenge the young guns from Knocknacarra. While Galway 3rds dominated the early exchanges it was KNC that took the lead, but it wasn't long before Galway were level again, and not long before they took the lead thanks to some good work from Anne Moylan on the right. In fact this turned out to be a hum dinger of a match as both sides exchanged the lead before Galway thanks to Babbs managed to convert a short corner routine, but all Galway had to do was to hold out. But as to be expected from this spirited KNC side with the final whistle arrived a final oppertunity to put the game into extra time and from the resulting short corner routine they clawed their way back into the game. Then to extra time where both sides battle to try and find a winner but could not be separated and then into strokes where the even still the sides had to wait for sudden death to separate them, as KNC snatch what was a cracking game of hockey.
Galway 1st: 4 AEG(1)
Scorers: Tara Melvin, Grace Melvin, Lynsey Trainor, Maeve Faherty
Sligo 1st: 0 AEG(1)
So next up was Galway 1st as they faced sligo following their draw in the first leg against the girls from Sligo County, the girls were anxious to stamp their authority on this contest from the start. Galway duely obliged as from the first short corner routine Galway took the lead thanks to a neat deflection which saw the ball nestle comfortably in the back of the Sligo net. Galway continue to press forward in search of more goals and it wasn't long before the 2nd one came, following some excellent work in midfield by Tara Melvin, Deirdre Hatton and Mc Nickan
