The ESB Kate Russell Cup brings together the top school talent in a play-off tournament to decide the All-Ireland Schools (Girls) Champions of the year and winners of the Kate Russell Cup.
The winners of each provincial school cup from each of the Branches (Ulster, Leinster, Munster, Connacht and South-East) and the previous winner's branch who gets two entries (the winner and runner up of their provincial cup) play-off in two pools of three with the winners progressing through to a final.
The event is a highlight in the schools sporting year and is feverishly attended and supported by pupils from the competing schools. This year the Jesuit Colaiste Iognaid quailified from Connacht,the team is managed by Rita Ryan and with half the squad hailing from Galway HC and members of the successful Connacht U-16 team which won the provencies first ever interprovinical title in 2008. So everyone from Galway Hockey Club would like to wish the squad and all involved all the best in their forth coming matchs especially the girls from Galway: Emily Molloy, MichelleCarey, Lynsey Trainor, Tara Melvin, Eavan Murphy and Elaine Carey.
This year the ESB Kate Russell will be held on 19th & 20th March, in Three Rock Rovers H.C. and televised by Setanta Sports. The Tournament will be played in two Pools of three as follows:
