The Galway Ladies 3rds team secured third spot in the division 2 league this season following a comprehensive victory over Greenfields 3rds on Sunday afternoon. While the division 2 title had already been decided following last weeks victory by Renmore over Athlone to secure the Top Oil division 2 league championship title, so Galway were looking to finish the league strongly as they head into the cup competition. Galway began the day brightly with some excellent passing moves and free flowing hockey, this team had an ideal blend of youth and experience with the likes of Barbara Hogan who was playing seconds last year now strutting her stuff a division lower. Coupled with this the return of seasoned campaigners like Ann Moylan, Gail Russell and Tracy Murphy has seen the thirds become a force to be reckoned with. In fact it was the afore mentioned personnell who were the spine of the victory over Greenfields thirds as Ann Moylan got two goals, Russel one and Tracey another two. Galway thirds next fixture is the Connacht Top Oil Ladies Junior Cup where they will face either Knocknacarra U-16 team or league runner-ups Athlone in want promises to be an exciting semi-final match up.
