Last Sunday saw the Connacht U-14 B Cup competition held in Dangan Regional Sports Centre, it what can only be descrided as interchangable weather conditions a great days competition began as Connacht league winner Knocknacarra took on Greenfields whom they defeated to secure their spot in the final later that afternoon. Next the young guns of Galway took on Athlone in the other semi-final and right from the start Galway set the tone of things to come as they took an early lead. Having taken an early lead the Galway side didn't rest on their laurals capitalising on another mistake to increase their lead, so at the interval Galway had a two goal advamtage and were looking comfortable. Into the second half and Galway continued to dominate but were unable to turn their domination into goals, with the final whistle this young Galway side had secured their first ever final against Knocknacarra.
Galway 2 Athlone 0
Connacht B Cup Final
Galway 0 Knocknacarra 3
Heart break was to follow for the young Galway chargers as they lost to a much more experience Knocknacarra side, while the final scoreline might suggest this was an easy encounter for girls from Knocknacarra. This was not the case at as Galway play attacking hockey right from the start, with their passing game a feature of their play. Unfortunately for Galway they didn't manage to convert the good chances they created, while at the other end Knocknacarra punished Galway for a few lapses in concentration. Overall the game was a great contest with both sides producing some excellent flowing movements while contesting every ball. Unfortunately for Galway it just wasn't their day, but going by the evidenence on show the future looks bright for these young guns at Galway Hockey Club.
