It was a productive weekend for all four of Galway's senior sides involved in action. On Saturday afternoon Galway 2nds made the long journey down to Garryduff to take on Cork Church of Ireland 2nds in the first round of the Irish Junior Cup. Niamh Codyre’s goal was enough to give Galway a 1-0 first-round win, which sets up a second round home draw in two weeks time against UCD 2nds, whom they beat 2-1 at the same stage last season.
Galway 1sts continued their 100% start to their Connacht Division 1 campaign with an emphatic 8-0 win over NUIG in Dangan.
Galway 3rds came out on the right side of a 3-2 scoreline against Renmore 1sts, Gail Taylor and Anne Moylan helping Galway continue their perfect start in Division 2 this season.
Galway Mens team got their season back on track with a hard fought 1-1 draw with Bandon 2nds in Dangan this afternoon. It was tight game with neither defence giving their opponents an inch. It was ultimately a very scrappy first half with a nil all half-time scoreline. The Mens team who are struggling with dwindling player numbers this season, showed great character after conceding mid-way through the second half, to push on in search of an equaliser. They were rewarded for their dogged determination with 10 minutes remaining, Andrew Kinsella's short corner strike was rebounded to Mark O'Connor whose follow-up shot was adjudged to be stopped on the line illegally, stroke to Galway. Mike Tighe stepped up and confidently beat the keeper. Galway nervously held on for the remainder of the game to bag two points and to put the recent poor results behind them.Galway remain in 4th in Munster Division 2.
