The Story So Far
The new year started well for Galway 3. A comprehensive win over Athlone 2 in Athlone by 7 goals to nil was followed by a tough 1-1 draw with Greenfields 3.
Galway travelled to Athlone to play the young Athlone side. Galway however were missing a few very experienced players but call ups from the Under 16 squad proved to be good replacements. Goals from Sibhain Forde(2), Gemma Rhatigan (2), Ann Dempsey, Emma Colleran and Jenny Timmon ensured the win for Galway.
The following weekend saw Galway take on a very young but experienced Greenfields side. Reeling from their 1-0 loss before Christmas, Greenfields were determined to turn the tables and started very strongly. Galway were under pressure for much of the first half, however, Galway's experience up front meant that they were always dangerous on the break and forced a few short corners before the break. The second half saw Galway come more into the game. However, mid way through the half an uncharateristic error by the Galway defence gave the ball to the Greenfields centre forward who made no mistake in putting the ball past the Galway keeper. This did not put Galway off and they continued to pressure up front. The pressure paid off when Siobhain Forde scored from a very narrow angle following some great approach work from Erris Burke. A well earned score draw for the thirds.
