Ladies 2nds
Galway 2 through to quarter finals of the Irish Junior Cup.
Galway 2 won their way through to the quarter finals of the Irish Junior Cup following a very exciting and convincing win over Dublin side Corinthians in the third round. Galway went behind early in the game but this just spurred them on and by half time they were in complete control and leading by 2 goals to 1 with Aoife Codyre and Emma Glanville, the scorers.
The second half saw Galway continue where they left off with Christine Rabbitte adding to the scoreine. However, 3-1 up, Galway sat back a little and Corinthians came back into the game briefly and scored. However, Galway forwards started to attack with pace and quick passing and Emma Johnson and Aoife Coydre added to the Galway scoreline. With minutes remaining Corinthians scored another to leave the final scoreline at 5-3.
Galway now wait until Monday to see their opposition in the quarter finals of the Irish Junior Cup.
Galway continue their winning ways in the Connacht Senior League
Galway seconds were not to be outdone over the weekend by their first team club members when they won their league game against Greenfields Seconds in the Connacht Senior League. Galway dominated the game throughout but the Greenfields goalkeeper had an outstanding game. It looked like Galway were not going to be able to break through with the shots being constantly saved. However, Galway finally went ahead with a penalty stroke from Emma Glanville. Christina Rabbitte added a second mid way through the second half when she perfectly deflected a short corner shot from Sadhbh Gavin into the roof of the net. Galway 2nds are now third in the Connacht Senior League table.
Galway were happy with their performace especially when they have a very difficult Irish Junior Cup third round clash with Corinthians from Leinster. The game will take place in Dangan at 1pm on Saturday.
